Why Did We Create the Dementia Capable Care Learning Library?
Kim Warchol, President and Founder of Dementia Care Specialists (Crisis Prevention Institute), answers a popular question: Why did we create the Dementia Capable Care Learning Library?
In this video, Kim explains that effective dementia training should never be a "one-and-done" event. Research shows that adults, especially healthcare professionals, learn best through repetition and ongoing practice of skills.
The Learning Library was created to provide bite-sized, fresh, and continual education to support DCC Certified Instructor in applying the core principles of Dementia Capable Care:
** Person-Centered Care: Focusing on the individual's goals, history, and wants.
** Stages of Dementia: Using an abilities-focused perspective to capitalize on what the person can still do, and support what they cannot.
** Distress Behavior Prevention & Intervention: Learning strategies to reduce the risk of behaviors like agitation and anxiety, and how to effectively de-escalate when they occur.
