You may be wondering why we created the new Dementia Capable Care (DCC) Learning Library. The short answer is we want to give our customers access to more great DCC training content to help them develop their teams and to experience real success in dementia care. We are super excited to bring this new value-added continued learning resource exclusively to our cherished customers.

We know our customers have many options when it comes to choosing dementia training. We understand the significance of their choice as training is an investment of resources that may be in short supply. We want to earn business by providing a high-quality training program that helps our partnering organizations provide great dementia care, mitigate risks and challenges, and experience tangible, sustainable results.

It all begins with mutual understandings and shared goals.

  • We know dementia care is not easy work, and we want to help. Quality training should empower learners with knowledge, skills, and tools to feel confident and competent in their role as they support and interact with those living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
  • Staff who are adequately prepared will have a tremendous positive impact on the individuals in care. Our ultimate objectives are to create a dementia capable workforce and society. This will enable those living with dementia, their loved ones, and care partners to thrive. The daily implementation of the DCC approaches and principles can help make this mission and vision a reality.
  • We care about your outcomes. Dementia care requires a specialized approach and skillset to produce positive outcomes. Outcomes such as less falls, higher levels of activity engagement and independence, and less use of psychotropic drugs are possible when a team successfully implements DCC.
  • Those who use our DCC training choose us because they value the process of learning to develop and empower themselves and their teams. We all understand TRAINING SHOULD NEVER BE ONE AND DONE because if it is, there is a strong likelihood that the training will be ineffective.

I’m sure we have all had the experience of taking a training course and then completely forgetting or never using what we were taught. What a waste. I’d chalk that up to little more than checking a box, with extremely limited value for the investment of time and money.

Adult learning theory tells us adults learn best when (a) they can apply what they learn to real-life scenarios, (b) they know what they are learning is relevant to what they want to achieve, and (c) they have opportunities for practice.

Repetition is essential for solidifying new skills and developing mastery. The more they can practice a particular subject or skill, the better the chances are for mastery.

Introducing the New DCC Learning Library- A tool to develop your team to create a lasting and profound impact.

We are thrilled to offer a discretionary subscription to this learning library, at no additional cost to organizations who have one or more Certified Instructors (CIs) who are training their staff in Dementia Capable Care 2nd edition (DCC2e). Staff at the organization who complete this initial training can receive access to the library.

The library is a great second step designed for continued learning. It is filled with short video microlearnings, and application activities that can be used in a session led by a CI, reinforcing what was learned in DCC2e training, and expanding DCC into real world use scenarios.

5 ways the new library can be a game-changing tool:

  1. Help grow staff confidence and competence in using core concepts learned in DCC and can serve as a helpful topic refresh.
  2. Provide practical, real-world examples of how to use DCC to solve common problems, helping to reduce staff stress and improve the organization’s outcomes.
  3. Motivate staff to learn. Trainings taken can count towards renewal of a Dementia Capable Care Specialist (DCCS) Credential (a small credential renewal fee will apply).
  4. Save time for the CI. These new continued learning microlearnings are available as videos on demand.
  5. Help your organization meet dementia training requirements or address quality assurance or compliance gaps.

The bottom line is we wanted to give our customers MORE, so we built this value-add resource to provide: MORE great training to help develop mastery; MORE help addressing common problems, MORE great training to support goals of the organization, MORE help in reducing time and stress on the CI, and MORE options for renewing a DCCS credential.

What’s in the new DCC Learning Library?

At this writing, the library contains the following:

CATEGORY: DCC Core Topics

  • Introduction to Dementia Capable Care
  • Early-Stage Dementia
  • Middle Stage Dementia

CATEGORY: Problem and Solution Topics

  • Using DCC to Prevent Falls
  • Using DCC to Reduce Resistance to Bathing or Showering

CATEGORY: For Loved Ones and Caregivers

  • Five Paradigm Shifts to Help Everyone Live Well with Dementia

CATEGORY: Advanced Content for Rehab (Therapy and Nursing) Professionals

  • Functional Cognitive Assessment and Intervention: A Critical Role for Occupational Therapy and Other Rehabilitation Professionals

Most of these microlearnings have two parts including:

  • Part 1: The instructional topic. Can be taken by watching a 15 to 25-minute video (as an individual or as a group in an inservice led by the CI).
  • Part 2: Reinforce and apply the instructional topic. It is taken by attending an inservice led by the DCC-CI using the Inservice Guidance document provided.

The library may be refreshed from time to time. We will encourage our customers to share their feedback on pertinent topics which will be considered for future inclusion.

Closing

I’m happy to say many organizations who are using our Dementia Capable Care training are finding tremendous benefit. Just the other day one of our account managers said a customer told them the training program was so powerful it had changed their career. Wow! And we have so many Dementia Capable Care Superstars who are experiencing and proudly sharing their success.

It is so wonderful to hear this feedback because it affirms, together, we are making a real difference. We are grateful to all those people and organizations who have chosen us as their dementia training partner to help inspire and develop their workforce. We don’t take their commitment lightly and this new library is just one more way that we want to help our valued customers know they made the right choice.

Gain the knowledge and skills to optimize function, safety, and quality of life for those you serve and certifications to distinguish yourself or your organization as a leader

Occupational Therapist Role in Dementia Care & AOTA Conference

April is Occupational Therapy Month- a time to celebrate OTs who empower those with dementia to live meaningfully. As a dementia care specialist, I’ve seen how OT restores independence through personalized strategies, from cognitive assessments to environmental adaptations. After attending the 2025 AOTA Inspire Conference, I’m reminded how vital it is to amplify dementia care in our field—because every person deserves to thrive, not just cope.
