This course was designed for Occupational Therapists/COTA’s, Physical Therapists/PTA’s, SLP’s, and others who work with the geriatric dementia patient. We present a paradigm shift in which clinicians move from an impairment based practice to abilities-based to facilitate the improvement in function, safety and quality of life needed for Medicare reimbursement. Participants learn how to evaluate and treat cognitive dysfunction using the esteemed Allen Cognitive Disabilities Model, Theory of Retrogenisis, and to adjust all aspects of the clinical path, treatment plan, and documentation based on the patients cognitive stage. Participants are taught how to adjust communication approach, activities and the environment to facilitate successful participation and outcomes.
New for 2009: Enhanced SLP application information.
