"How to Maximize Function and Well Being for the Person with Dementia"
This course was designed for all team members working directly or indirectly with the individual with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia (examples include CNA’s, nursing, housekeepers, activities, administration, social workers, dietary, etc.)

We teach a person-centered, abilities-based care model based on proven theory that will make it easy for staff to promote the highest possible level of well-being and function and to minimize behavior problems associated with dementia.

This course places significant emphasis on the personhood of caregiving to demonstrate maximum results.

Clear, practical ways to individualize care approaches per dementia stage is taught.

This course is highly interactive with hands on role plays and lab sessions throughout.

Objectives: By the End of This Program, Participants will be able to:
  • Understand that the “person” still remains inside the “patient” at all dementia stages
  • Identify remaining abilities and common deficits at every stage of dementia
  • Understand the correlation of dementia stages to developmental age as described in the Theory of Retrogenisis
  • Adapt care approaches to capitalize on remaining abilities and maximize function and safety, for every stage of dementia
  • Understand how to adapt communication to enable the person with dementia to function at the highest possible level
  • Identify behavior management techniques to prevent and control challenging behaviors associated with dementia.

Additional Information:
One highly experienced faculty member will provide this sought after, leading edge program.

Pre-tests and post-tests are provided and scored by Dementia Care Specialists, Inc. to demonstrate change in knowledge.

A final report is provided to facility summarizing the results.

Maximum Number of Attendees:
This class is limited to a maximum number of 30 attendees. Only direct employees of the sponsoring company can attend. No marketing of the program is allowed.

Responsibilities of Dementia Care Specialists, Inc.
  • Provide 7 contact hour course
  • Provide a copy of the course handout 14 days prior to the workshop
  • Provide AV needs 14 days prior to the workshop
  • Score pre and post tests, compile summary report
  • Provide certificates of participation for each participant

Responsibilities of the sponsoring company:
  • Secure and provide site for training program
  • Provide requested AV equipment and props (i.e. ADL equipment)
  • Copy handout materials
